वैष्णव जन तो तेणे कहिए जे, पीड परायी जाणे रे ।
पर दुःखे उपकार करे तोये, मन अभिमान न आणे रे ॥
Vaiṣṇav jan to teṇe kahiye je, pīḍ parāyī jāṇe re,
par duḥkhe upkār kare toye, man abhimān na āṇe re.
Call him a true Vaishnav who feels the pain of others; who helps those in misery, yet never lets pride touch his mind.
सकळ लोकमां सहुने वंदे, निंदा न करे केणी रे ।
वाच काछ मन निश्चल राखे, धन-धन जननी तेणी रे ॥
Sakaḷ lokmāṅ sahune vande, nindā na kare keṇī re,
vāch kāchh man niśchal rākhe, dhan-dhan jananī teṇī re.
He bows to all people in the world and speaks ill of none; he keeps his speech, actions, and mind steady — blessed is the mother who bore him.
समदृष्टि ने तृष्णा त्यागी, परस्त्री जेने मात रे ।
जिह्वा थकी असत्य न बोले, पर धन नव झाले हाथ रे ॥
Samadṛṣṭi ne tṛṣṇā tyāgī, parastrī jene māt re,
jihvā thakī asatya na bole, par dhan nav jhāle hāth re.
He looks upon all with equal eyes, has renounced greed, and regards another's wife as his own mother; his tongue never speaks a lie, and his hand never reaches for another's wealth.
मोह माया व्यापे नहि जेने, दृढ़ वैराग्य जेना मनमां रे ।
राम नाम शुं ताळी लागी, सकळ तीरथ तेना तनमां रे ॥
Moh māyā vyāpe nahi jene, dṛḍh vairāgya jenā manmāṅ re,
Rām nām śuṅ tāḷī lāgī, sakaḷ tīrath tenā tanmāṅ re.
Delusion and attachment do not touch him, for firm renunciation dwells in his mind; he is so absorbed in Ram's name that every place of pilgrimage resides within his own body.
वण लोभी ने कपटरहित छे, काम क्रोध निवार्या रे ।
भणे नरसैयो तेनुं दर्शन करतां, कुळ एकोतेर तार्या रे ॥
Vaṇ lobhī ne kapaṭ-rahit chhe, kām krodh nivāryā re,
bhaṇe Narsaiyo tenuṅ darśan kartāṅ, kuḷ ekoter tāryā re.
He is free of greed and deceit, having conquered lust and anger; says Narsinh, merely by beholding such a soul, seventy-one generations of one's family are liberated.
